Rajiv Gauba, lAS (JH 82), Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs

Rajiv Gauba, lAS (JH 82), Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The officer will take over as Home Secretary on completion of tenure of the present incumbent Rajiv Mehrishi on 30.08.2017.

Gauba was originally from Bihar cadre and after partition of the state joined the Jharkhand cadre and was till few months back the Chief Secretary aso.

He has taken some nice steps during his stint and Jharkhand and also as Secretary Urban Development.

Delivering the inaugural address at the One Mega Event on Smart Cities on 9 May as the Chief Guest, Rajiv Gauba, then Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, said: "The Smart Cities Mission has come to represent urban transformation and it’s very interesting to see the kind of ground work being undertaken. The idea of smart cities would no doubt boost business, and the economy of the country.”

Over 900 smart city projects are already in the process of implementation across the country. Stating that the Mission was launched with the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the Swachh Bharat Mission, he continued, "The focus should be on innovation and new ways of implementation. Smart cities doesn’t essentially mean new cities, or added infrastructure, but incorporating smart technologies for the current cities. State governments and cities have now realised that they need to be more liberal.”
