All India Inter University Women Chess Tournament inaugurated in DU
Chess Pawns teach to avoid distortions and take decisions: Anoop Lather
All India Inter University Chess (Women) Tournament 2024-25 is being organized in University of Delhi. The tournament was inaugurated on March 18 at the Multipurpose Hall located in the DU Sports Complex. On this occasion, Anoop Lather, Chairperson DU Culture Council and PRO was the Chief guest and Prof. Rajiv Chopra, Principal Delhi College of Arts and Commerce was the Guest of Honour. Teams from 16 universities from across the country are participating in this tournament.
Addressing on the occasion of the inauguration, Chief Guest Anoop Lather said that the movement of Chess Pawns teaches to avoid all kinds of distortions in life and take decisions. Sharing his college life experiences with the players, Anoop Lather said that sports develop in us the ability to take decisions in the future. He said that we play games, learn from games and win with that learning. Along with this, while giving information about the moves of Chess Pawns, he said that Chess is a unique game. He also wished all the players and motivating them to play with full dedication.
The Guest of Honour Prof. Rajiv Chopra said in his address that a player is never a loser, if one loses then the other will win. Motivating all the players, participating in the tournament, he said that all of you are winners. It is worth noting that the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi has entrusted the responsibility of organizing All India Inter University Chess (Women)Tournament 2024-25 to the University of Delhi. This tournament will be held in Delhi University from 18 March to 20 March.
Director of Physical Education and Sports, Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal informed that a total of 16 universities from 4 zones are participating in this All India Inter University Chess (Women) Tournament. From the Northern Zone are University of Delhi, Punjab University Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh University (HP) and Punjabi University Patiala. In this tournament Adams University West Bengal, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya Durg (C.G.), University of Calcutta and Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur (C.G.) are participating from the East Zone.
University of Madras Chennai, Anna University Chennai, Bharathiar University (Coimbatore) Tamil Nadu and SRM IST University Tamil Nadu are participating from the Southern Zone. Dr Kalkal informed that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Pune, University of Mumbai and Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Nashik are participating from the Western Zone. He informed that total 96 chess players are participating in these 16 teams.
