The India Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted Cyclone Jawad will make its landfall around Puri district on December 6. Some interesting points that you must know about Cyclone Jawad.
According to its latest bulletin, the storm lies 420 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, and 530 km south-southeast of Gopalpur and 650 km south-southwest of Paradip in Odisha.
Cyclone Jawad - A glance
- Cyclone Jawad is expected to reach the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast by Saturday morning.
- The coastal towns of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
- The Cyclone will make landfall somewhere in Puri district on Sunday.
- Wind speed could be around 90-100 kmph, and increase upto 110 kmph during landfall.
- The intensity of the cyclone will low down from December 5.
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal will be most affected but it will have its impact over northeastern states like Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
- The rainfall intensity will reduce from December 6 as the cyclone Jawad shifts towards the northeast regions.
However, there could be a change if Cyclone Jawad makes sudden changes in its route. In such a situation the intensity of the cyclone will slow down. Rainfall will continue but the velocity of wind and devastation will minimize.
