Admission to Undergraduate Programs

The University of Delhi offers 79 Undergraduate Programs and 183 B.A. Program combinations through its 69 Colleges. There are close to 71,000 seats offered in the Colleges of UoD. About 1500 unique Program + College Combinations are offered by the University of Delhi. Admission to all these Programs and Colleges is based on the merit score obtained from the Common University Entrance Test (CUET (UG)- 2023.

The University of Delhi had announced the eligibility criteria for various programs through its Bulletin of Information, in English and Hindi, on February 27, 2024. The Bulletin stated the requirements of minimum eligibility, CUET papers to be selected as per the program-specific eligibility, and detailed seat matrix of all the programs of all colleges of the University.

The University has now launched its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG) -2024) document that elaborates on the procedures that will be adopted for admissions. The CSAS (UG) registration is divided into two phases. The first phase, launched on May 28, 2024, is a simple registration process wherein the candidates desirous of seeking admission will have to fill their personal details and academic scores obtained in Class XII. CUET(UG) - 2024 Application Number will be mandatory for applying to CSAS(UG)-2024. The name, signature, and photograph of the candidate will be auto-integrated from the CUET(UG) - 2024 portal. These fields will be non-editable. There will be a provision to enter an active email id and mobile number of the candidate. All communication from University of Delhi will be made only on the email id submitted in the CSAS-2024 Application Form.

The candidate will then be required to fill his/her personal details such as Parent’s Name, Category / Sub-Category/ Caste/ Supernumerary Quotas, Gender, Email id, Mobile number and Bank Account details will not be changed. The candidates must take utmost care while filling in these details as they will be able to change these details once the form gets submitted. In the Academic section, the candidates will have to fill in the details of the marks obtained in his/her class XII. For students who have passed Class XII from CBSE, the marksheet will be auto-integrated through his/her DigiLocker. Subsequently, the candidates will opt for the supernumerary category, if any and finally proceed to pay the registration fees. The registration fees are Rupees 250/- for UR, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, while it is Rs. 100 for SC/ST/ and PwBD candidates. This will complete the first phase of CSAS(UG) 2024.

The second phase of the CSAS (UG) process will commence with the declaration of the CUET (UG) results. To participate in the second phase, the candidates will have to login to their CSAS dashboard and complete the Preference-Filling. In the second phase, the candidates will have to map the subjects studied by them in Class XII to the subjects in which they have appeared in CUET(UG). The University of Delhi will consider only those CUET Language/Domain papers which are same/similar to the subject studied by the candidate in his/her Class XII. Based on the subject mapping provided by the candidate and the program-specific eligibility requirements, the candidates will be able to see their cumulative marks for every program they are eligible for admission. The University will consider the scores provided by the NTA to calculate the merit scores of candidates. The candidates will be able to choose the Programs he/she is eligible for. It is advisable for the candidate to select the maximum number of Program/s + College/s to avail of the maximum benefits of the CSAS admission policies. Only the Programs + College Combinations selected by the candidate during the Preference-Filling phase will be considered for allocation and upgradations (if any). The order of selection of the Program + College combination will also determine the preference order for the allocation of seats. Hence, the candidate must carefully prioritize the preference of Program + College combinations while sequencing them. It is in the best interest of the candidate to fill the maximum number of preferences so as to benefit optimally from the upgradation in subsequent allocation rounds.

The University will provide sufficient time for the candidates to fill in the preferences. However, the candidates should start shortlisting the Programs and Colleges they are interested in to avoid last-minute haste. Before submitting, the candidate must ensure that the order of preferences is as per his/her choice. Editing of the Program + College combination preference list after the deadline for the Preference-Filling Phase will NOT be allowed, i.e., the candidate CANNOT change the order of his/her preferences OR add/delete any more Program/s and/or College/s after the deadline for Preference-Filling Phase.

According to the CSAS policy, the University will also announce a Simulated Ranks on the closure of the Preference-filling phase based on the data available at that time. The candidates can again add/delete/reorder their preferences based on the Simulated Rank. Henceforth, the addition/deletion of preferences will not be allowed.

The CSAS document released on May 28, 2024 also delineates the policies on which allocations will be done. The Highest Possible Preference will be provisionally allocated to a candidate considering a) Program-Specific merit, b) Category (UR/OBC-NCL/ SC/ ST/ EWS/ Minority/ PwBD/ KM), c) Availability of seats, and d) any other allocation rules, policies, or criteria as mentioned in the document (CSAS(UG)-2024), UG BOI 2024, or published on the admission website of University of Delhi.

Once a seat has been allocated in a particular round, the candidate must 'Accept' the Allocated Seat before the last date/time specified for the given allocation round. The provision for acceptance of a particular Allocated Seat will be valid only for the round in which the seat was allocated to the candidate. Inactivity/no-action will be taken as non-acceptance to the Allocated Seat. In case a candidate is offered multiple seats in a particular round, s(he) must "Accept" and take admission in only one Allocated seat. Once the candidate "Accept" the provisionally Allocated Seat, the concerned College will check the eligibility and validity of the documents uploaded by the candidate. The College will verify the documents and accord its approval. Upon receiving the approval, the candidates will have to pay the admission fees within the stipulated time.

After the closure of each allocation round, the University of Delhi will publish the details of the vacant seats in each program in all Colleges. All admitted candidates will have the option to opt for “Upgrade” or “Freeze” at this stage. The candidates who have secured their admission will be able to reorder the preferences that are higher than the one in which he/she has taken the admission. Candidates who opt for ‘Upgrade’ will be considered for upgradation to a higher preference submitted by him/her. A candidate who gets upgraded will have to 'Accept' the upgraded seat and complete the admission procedures on the upgraded Allocated Seat/s. A candidate who has taken admission on an Allocated Seat and desires to continue with it should submit a 'Freeze' request through his/her dashboard. On selecting 'Freeze', such a candidate will never be allowed to opt for "Upgradation”.

The following rules will be applied to break the tie - a higher percentage of aggregate marks in the Best 3 subjects of Class XII; a higher percentage of aggregate marks in the Best 4 subjects of Class XII; a higher percentage of aggregate marks in the Best 5 subjects of Class XII; Age of the candidate.

The University has also made a provision to accommodate the candidates who fail to register themselves within the stipulated registration period. This is the Mid-Entry provision. The University will open a Mid-Entry phase to give an opportunity to the candidates who failed to apply for CSAS(UG)-2024 and are desirous of participating in CSAS(UG)-2023. Such a candidate can enter midway by paying a Mid-Entry fee of Rs. 1000.00 (non-refundable). However, the mid-entrants will not hold any right to claim the seats allocated to candidates who had applied to CSAS(UG)-2024 during the initial Application Phase.

The University also advises candidates to keep their certificates and other documents updated and valid. Certificates belonging to OBC-NCL and EWS categories must ensure their certificate is issued after March 31, 2024. The name of the candidate claiming reservation under SC/ST/OBC -Non-Creamy Layer/EWS/PwBD/Minority must match with the name as it appears on his/her corresponding School Board qualifying certificate and in CUET(UG) – 2024. No undertaking in lieu of incomplete/non-availability of certificates/documents will be accepted.

The University has taken umpteen steps to make the CSAS portal student-friendly. A provision to seek clarification, if any, has been incorporated into the system through which the Colleges can interact with the candidates. During the online approval process, if a college wishes to seek more clarity/information from the candidate, it may raise a query to the Candidate.

After completing regular CSAS(UG)-2024 rounds, UoD may announce Spot round/s of admission if seats remain vacant.

To achieve optimal seat allocation and to avoid the situation wherein seats become vacant due to dropouts, in the initial round/s of allotment, 20% extra allotments will be done in UR, OBC-NCL, EWS categories and 30% extra allotments will be done in SC, ST and PwBD categories for all programs in all the College. However, colleges where last year the withdrawals were less than 5% of the sanctioned strength, 10% extra allotments may be done for UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS and 15% in SC/ST/PwBD categories.

The University of Delhi advises candidates to refer to the website of the University on a regular basis. CSAS is the only online platform through which admission to all programs in all colleges will be done. The University will recognise only the candidates who are admitted through the Common Seat Allocation System of the University.
