Education Ministry Celebrates NEP 2020 Anniversary with Major Initiatives and Community Involvement

The Ministry of Education will celebrate the 4th anniversary of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2024 tomorrow at New Delhi’s Manekshaw Centre Auditorium. Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan will grace the occasion and share his insights on spearheading the NEP 2020 implementation. Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Education & Development of North Eastern Region Sukanta Majumdar, and other dignitaries will also be present. The event will be attended by eminent academicians, Vice Chancellors of universities, officials, and students.

During the event, Dharmendra Pradhan will inaugurate several important initiatives of the Department of Education. These include dedicated TV channels to facilitate learning of various Indian languages, a Tamil channel, primers for early graders in 25 Indian languages, guidelines for 10 bagless days aimed at transforming learning into a fun, stress-free experience in schools, career guidance guidelines featuring a library of over 500 job cards, NMM and NPST in Braille and audio books, a school innovation marathon by AICTE and AIM, and graduation attributes and professional competencies. Pradhan will also unveil several books and lecture notes aimed at promoting Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) among students and teachers.

ABSS has been conceptualized to celebrate the adoption of NEP 2020 and to reinvigorate the commitment of various stakeholders for its effective implementation. Six panel discussions will be organized during the day, delving into various initiatives of the Ministry and attended by eminent academicians and stakeholders. The first event of ABSS, organized in July 2022 at Varanasi, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In addition to the ABSS, the Ministry of Education is celebrating the 4th anniversary of NEP 2020 with a week-long campaign, “Shiksha Saptah.” On Day 7, schools nationwide are emphasizing community involvement in education through the Vidyanjali and Tithi Bhojan initiatives.

Vidyanjali, a school volunteer management program launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7, 2021, aims to strengthen schools and improve the quality of education through community, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and private sector involvement across the country. As part of the campaign, the Department of School Education & Literacy has provided a list of suggested activities for schools. Schools are focusing on onboarding themselves to the Vidyanjali portal and identifying local volunteers to provide support. They will also feature the names of active volunteers on a “Wall of Fame/Notice Board” in schools. Additionally, principals, teachers, and students will write letters of gratitude to these volunteers.

Community awareness activities such as rallies, street plays, poster-making, and chart-making about volunteer activities are also being organized. State and district-level officials are actively participating to ensure the campaign’s success. These efforts align with the NEP 2020’s goal of increasing community participation in education. These activities aim to build a strong support system for students and teachers, creating a better learning environment by bringing together schools, volunteers, and the community through the Vidyanjali portal (https://vidyanjali.education.gov.in/).

The Ministry of Education’s celebrations mark nearly two decades of significant contributions to Earth system sciences, reflecting its commitment to scientific and technological progress.
