India Circular Economy Forum 2024: Pioneering Sustainability and Innovation


ICEF2024 to witness over 300 delegates from over 18 countries, over 70 speakers with participation from key Indian Government Ministries, United Nations Bodies and Foreign embassies

 

International Council for Circular Economy, a leading non-profit think tank advocating and working towards the Circular Economy cause today announced that its annual “India Circular Economy Forum” (ICEF2024) will be held in New Delhi on July 11th and 12th at India Habitat Center. With a focus on growing concerns around Climate Change, ICEF2024 will bring together leading experts, policymakers, industry leaders, academia, and civil society to explore and advance the principles of a circular economy in India.

 

As per CII 'National Circular Economy Framework' (NCEF), by 2050, India's circular economy is projected to reach $2 trillion and is expected to create close to 10 million jobs. Given the tremendous potential and benefits, Under the theme "Emerging Technology and Innovation in Industry: Enabling a Circular Transition," ICEF2024 will feature around 13 insightful panel discussions, 3 accelerator sessions and workshops aimed at addressing the critical challenges and opportunities in the transition towards a sustainable and circular economy.

 

India Circular Economy Forum 2024 will have the inaugural keynote from Mr. Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa, government of India followed by around 70 speakers and participation of around 300 delegates on July 11th and 12th. The forum will have active participation from 6 Ministries including MoHUA, MNRE, MIETY, UN bodies like UN Global Compact, UNDP, UNEP and also embassies including Netherlands, Norway, Finland, US and British High Commission With a resolute mission, ICCE is dedicated to expediting the transition to a restorative and regenerative economic model that emphasizes circularity at its core. The council endeavours to cultivate a resilient and thriving local network that drives circularity from the grassroots level. Embracing a global perspective, ICCE seeks to redefine lives and spearhead transformative change on a global scale, ushering in a new era of circularity, mitigating the Climate Change and building a sustainable green future for generations to come.

. ICEF2024 aims to produce actionable outcomes, including publishing a comprehensive report on innovation in Indian cities, showcasing global advancements in waste management, and establishing a city network platform for the exchange of ideas, innovations, and technologies.

 

Commenting on the Forum, Shalini Goyal Bhalla, Managing Director, International Council for Circular Economy (ICCE) said “India's adoption of a circular economy pathway could yield substantial environmental benefits and a reduction in congestion, thereby reducing pollution. Switching to a circular economy has several advantages and vast potential to increase industry competitiveness, contribute to the GDP, and boost economic growth. This will be the 3rd edition of ICEF and every year we witness a growing response, this year we are expecting around 300 delegates to participate. We strongly believe Circular Economy is not an option but a necessity, Together, we can shape a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for India and the world.  The forum will cover a wide range of topics including "Innovative Technologies: Driving India's Circular Transition," "Textile Tech: Innovations Driving Circular Economy in Fashion," and "Reinventing Plastics: Innovations for a Circular Economy." The forum will witness Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary,            Ministry of Coal, Roopa Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Dinesh Jagdale, Joint Secretary at Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Michael Bucki, Counsellor & Head of Section – Sustainable Modernization, Delegation of the European Union to deliver a special address, providing valuable insights on India’s strategic direction in achieving a sustainable future.

 

Advancing towards a Circular Economy is vital given India's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fulfilling the commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals regarding responsible consumption and production. The circular economy is also a key pillar of the Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the global community, which aims to encourage individuals to adopt environmentally friendly sustainable lifestyles.
