Indian Coast Guard Swiftly Rescues Critically Ill Fisherman off Kerala Coast
ICG rescues critically-ill fisherman off Kerala Coast
In a heroic sea rescue, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) saved a critically ill fisherman off the coast of Kerala on May 7, 2024. The incident occurred approximately 40 nautical miles from Beypore, where the fisherman, aboard the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Jazeera, suffered a near-drowning incident that led to severe pulmonary complications.
Following the incident, the crew aboard IFB Jazeera promptly retrieved the distressed fisherman from the sea, but his condition worsened due to water accumulation in his lungs. In response, a medical distress call was issued, promptly answered by the ICG.
Deploying their Advanced Light Helicopter from Kochi, equipped with a medical team, and supported by vessels Aryaman and C-404, the ICG executed a precise operation. The critically ill fisherman was airlifted to Kochi where he received immediate medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
This operation highlights the ICG's relentless commitment to their motto ‘Vayam Rakshama’ (We Protect), showcasing their readiness and efficiency in maritime emergencies.
