NTPC launches new edition of Girl Empowerment Mission

NTPC's Flagship GEM Program Set to Empower More Girls Nationwide


NTPC Limited, India's largest power conglomerate, announces the forthcoming launch of its acclaimed Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) for the year 2024. GEM, a beacon of hope and change, dovetails with the Government of India's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, striving to dismantle gender barriers and empower young girls from underprivileged backgrounds. This initiative unfolds through a comprehensive month-long workshop slated for April 2024, aimed at nurturing nearly 3,000 meritorious children across 42 locations, thus propelling the total beneficiaries over the 10,000 mark.


Born in 2018 as a pilot at three locations, GEM has blossomed into a transformative nationwide campaign. Despite the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative's reach has consistently expanded, touching the lives of 7,424 girls to date. The 2023 session alone witnessed the participation of 2,707 girls from 40 NTPC locations in 16 Indian states, underlining the program's growing impact.


GEM's mission is to empower young girls by fostering leadership qualities, ensuring they are poised for future challenges. The workshop curriculum is meticulously designed to cover vital areas such as health, hygiene, safety, fitness, sports, and yoga, ensuring a well-rounded developmental experience.


The program has been lauded for its comprehensive approach to empowering girls, providing them with skills, confidence, and mentorship. NTPC's GEM initiative not only aims to illuminate the path to a brighter future for these young girls but also envisions them as change-makers for their families, communities, and the nation at large.
