President welcomes the Vice President of Dominican Republic on her first visit to India

Today at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Raquel Pea Rodriguez, Vice President of the Dominican Republic, met with Droupadi Murmu, President of India.

The President welcomed the Vice President on her maiden trip to India and remarked on how appropriate the timing of the visit was given that the two countries were celebrating the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. She remarked that there is a great convergence of views on global issues and warm and cordial bilateral relations between the two nations, which are based on a firm foundation of shared democratic ideals.

The Dominican Republic is India's eighth-largest trading partner in Latin America, the President pointed out.  She was sure that there was room to expand the trade basket's diversification. According to her, there is room for collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and skills in fields including digital payment technology, marine science, pharmaceutical items, and disaster-resistant infrastructure.

According to the President, one of the main tenets of India-Dominican Republic collaboration is capacity building. She was pleased to learn that India recently organised two Special ITEC training sessions for Dominican Republic officials in the vital areas of remote sensing and cyber security.

The two presidents concurred that further meetings and exchanges between India and the Dominican Republic would improve our two-way relations.
