Assembly Polls 2022: Election Commission announces dates, results on March 10

The Election Commission (EC) announced the dates for Assembly elections 2022 in five states. Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur, and Punjab. Polling will be held in seven phases across Uttar Pradesh, and two phases in Manipur. The rest of the States will have a single-phase polling. 





Let's take a glance at the dates:

Uttar Pradesh:  

1st Phase: February 10
2nd Phase: February 14
3rd Phase: February 20
4th Phase: February 23
5th Phase: February 27
6th Phase: March 3
7th Phase: March 7.

Manipur:
1st Phase: February 23
2nd Phase: March 3

Uttarakhand, Goa, and Punjab: February 14.

18.34 crore electors including service officials across 690 Assembly constituencies will exercise their franchise. 8.55 are fresh voters. 

The number of seats at a glance:

Uttar Pradesh: 403 seats

Uttarakhand: 70 seats

Punjab: 117 seats

Manipur: 60 seats

Goa: 40 seats

The counting of votes will take place on March 10. 

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said, "Initiatives are being taken to make the polls COVID free". The EC has banned all rallies, public meetings till January 15. EC has also imposed a strict ban on any victory rally after polls.

"We took stock of the poll-bound states before announcing the dates. We met the heath officials too", added Chandra.  

Model Code of Conduct for five states including Manipur have come into immediate effect.
