The political situation in West Bengal has turned from worse to worst. On average people curse themselves for bringing Trinamool to power in 2011 for the first time to get rid of the Red regime but 'expectations' seem to have gone totally wrong. People in the state had big hopes. The slogan "bodla noi bodol chai" (not revenge but change) seems to have been nothing but mere 'slogan', no conviction attached. On the contrary, whatever is happening in the state is the reflection of what Red regime carried out in Bengal. In many cases, the present government has left the Red behind in lawlessness.

Opposition in the state is scared as ruling Trinamool has always been vindictive in its approach towards them. During Assembly polls in the state both Supremo Mamata Banerjee, and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the party general secretary had warned the Opposition by saying "inchi inchi te inchi inchi te dekhe nobo" (We shall see you inch by inch). This was not mere words as immediately after winning the polls BJP supporters had to face the wrath of Trinamool. Houses were vandalised, people were thrashed. The situation turned so grave that National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had to step in and issue warnings to the state government.

If you talk to anyone who is associated with non-Trinamool, then you will see the fear inside them as they are scared of their women, household, and business. If you dare to raise your voice then your shops or business establishments may turn into rubbles or ashes. This is the reality of districts, remote villages in the state. "aamraa jara BJP kori tara bhoi bhoi thaki, karon amader meyeder nirapotta ke debe" (those of us who work for BJP are scared over the safety of our women in the state), said a resident in the suburbs of Kolkata under the condition of anonymity. Not just he but many like him are scared.

Once again Bengal is in news and for the wrong reasons. Over eight villagers including women and children in Bogtui were charred to death. The Trinamool goons allegedly locked the doors from outside before torching their houses. The shameless incident took place after a Trinamool worker was killed in the area. Locals are terrified in the area.

The matter was raised in the Parliament and Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked for a detailed report from the state government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also expressed his concern over the degradation of law and order in the state and requested Banerjee to take adequate steps to stop attacks on the opposition.

West Bengal state had tweeted that the incident indicated West Bengal was gripped by a culture of “violence and lawlessness". Banerjee as always entered into a bitter verbal altercation with the Governor. She told him through a letter that his “utterances and statements have political overtones which provide support to other political parties to browbeat the government."

The NHRC taking cognizance of the media reports of violence in the Birbhum district of West Bengal issued notices to the state government through the chief secretary and DGP. Over 25 people were booked but allegations and counter-allegations continue as Trinamool is still in a defiant mood as always. Calcutta High Court orders a CBI probe into the incident and file a report by April 7, 2022.

The situation is still grave but under control. However, locals are terrified. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is yet to visit the area. She has canceled her visit as a high-level team under the leadership of Suvendu Akhikary will be visiting the spot and meeting the people. Banerjee is expected to visit the place on Thursday tomorrow.

Many in Bengal today curse themselves for opting for a change and bringing Mamata Banerjee's government to power.
