Meeting organized in DU for popularize the noble
cause of Body-Organs donation

Vice
Chancellor of University of Delhi, Prof. Yogesh Singh said that even after a
person's death, Body and Organs donation can keep him alive in the bodies of
others. The Vice Chancellor was addressing while presiding over a meeting
organized for popularize the noble cause of Body-Organs donation in DU and its
related departments and colleges. On this occasion, Alok Kumar, Patron of
Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti and National President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, as
the keynote speaker, discussed in detail on body and organ donation in detail.
The Vice
Chancellor said in his address that body donation and organ donation is a noble
cause, but there is a need for awareness about it. He said that the greater the
need for this noble cause in the present times, the more difficult is the task
of preparing people for it. The Vice Chancellor said that this work is not
going to be completed in a short time, but is a long-term task. Continuous
efforts will have to be made for this. Of course, the results may start coming
late, but with time its acceptance among people will increase significantly.
Teachers and students have an important role in this. Its success stories will
also start emerging year after year. Placing those success stories in front of
the public will further increase positivity, the Vice Chancellor said.
Alok
Kumar, patron of Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti, while addressing during the meeting,
shared the experiences of the samiti's 27 years of tenure. While creating
awareness about body donation and organ donation, he said that 4-6 people can
get sight from the eyes of one person. Many times, even after death, many organs
of a person's body can be successfully transplanted into the bodies of others.
He told that for this the person has to fill a consent form with the consent of
any two of his family members. He said that if people are not ready to donate
their body then organs donation must be done. On this occasion, many teachers
also openly put forward their suggestions and curiosities. During the meeting
Dean of Colleges Prof. Balram Pani, Director of South Campus, Prof. Shri
Prakash Singh, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, Representatives of many colleges and
departments were present in the meeting.
The idea came in March, the committee was formed in
April
The idea
of running an awareness campaign by DU in collaboration with Dadhichi Deh Daan
Samiti regarding body organs donation came from Alok Kumar, patron of Dadhichi Deh
Daan Samiti, in March 2024. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Vice
Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh on April 2 to discuss on the this. In that
meeting a committee of 6 members was formed. In this committee, NCC
Coordinator, NSS Coordinator, Coordinator for Teaching Staff, Coordinator for
Non-Teaching Staff, Coordinator for Students (Female) and Coordinator for
Students (Male) were appointed. NCC and NSS coordinators were appointed as
liaison officers. These coordinators are working closely with colleges and
departments for awareness. Committees have also been formed in most of the
colleges also.
