On Thursday Delhi reported over 15,000 fresh COVID cases. Six deaths.  The number of active cases in the capital now stands at 31,498. Earlier in the day, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the total number of fresh COVID cases is expected to cross the 14,000-mark.

After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal mentioned the Omicron variant as mild and less dangerous, Delhi Health Minister confirmed none of the deaths due to Covid-19 in Delhi are due to the new Omicron variant. Jain maintained the positivity rate is likely to stay between 13 per cent and 14 per cent.

Delhi health minister refused to accept that Omicron is grave or deaths have taken place due to the new variant. “There were around 10,000 cases on a single day in Delhi, last time. There were about 150 to 200 deaths" said Jain who maintained the situation in Delhi is not so grave and that there won't be any lockdown.

Well, Aam Admi Party (AAP) may call Omicron mild and less dangerous as compared to COVID-19 but medical experts across the country have requested all to follow COVID protocols stringently. According to the medical fraternity, the variant which has very mild symptoms should not be taken lightly. The doctors have also requested people not to take ailments like cold and cough lightly as these could be signs of Omicron.

Since last weekend, samples collected for sequencing were found to be Omicron positive. According to official data over 81 per cent of the samples sequenced were infected with the Omicron variant.

Delhi government has already imposed a weekly curfew, prior to that it issued Yellow Alert. In order to fight the situation, proactive efforts from people across Delhi NCR are also required. Often people show an attitude as if they are doing some charity or services to the government or administration by following COVID restrictions. By following COVID protocols they are ensuring the safety of themselves and their near and dear ones.
