Delhi University's strategic plan for 2022-2047 presented at the 1266th meeting of Executive Council

 

Preparation has started for DU's contribution in making India a developed nation for the next 25 years: Prof. Yogesh Singh

The 1266th meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of University of Delhi was held on Friday, 9 June at the Convention Hall of the University. In this meeting organized under the chairmanship of DU Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh, the strategic plan of the University for the Next 25 years (2022-2047) was presented for discussion. Along with this, many important issues were also discussed and passed in the meeting.

Regarding the strategic plan of the university, Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh said that the next 25 years are very important for the country. When the country will be celebrating the centenary of its independence, we will be among the developed nations. Therefore, the University of Delhi has also started preparing for its contribution to make India a developed nation in the next 25 years.

At the beginning of the meeting of the Executive Council, the Vice-Chancellor presented detailed information about the activities of the University. After that various issues were discussed in the Open House Zero Hour. Under the agenda of the meeting, the recommendations made in the meeting of the Academic Council of the University held on May 26 were considered. Under this, after discussion on various draft amendments, they were accepted. Approval was given to revise the schemes of examinations of existing CBCS/LOCF based courses as per the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 as recommended by the Academic Council.

Under this, the recommendations given in relation to the curriculum of various departments of the Faculty of Arts based on the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 implemented from the academic year 2022-2023 were accepted. Along with this, the recommendations of the Faculty of Commerce and Business Science regarding the syllabus of Semester-IV and Semester-V of the Department of Commerce were also accepted. Apart from these, the revised syllabi of Semester-IV of Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, Cluster Innovation Center and School of Journalism were also accepted. Papers for Self Learning Materials (SLM) and Skill Enhancement courses were also accepted for the students of the School of Open Learning (SOL/COL) under the Department of Distance and Continuing Education. The recommendations regarding changes in the Master of Computer Application (MCA) course of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences were also approved during the meeting. It was also decided during the meeting that approval should also be accorded to the report of the Workload Assessment Committee constituted by the Vice-Chancellor to assess the current workload for the implementation of the five-year integrated LLB programme and work on the modalities for running the programme.

 

B Tech program will start with 360 students

The EC meeting also approved the recommendation of the steering committee constituted for conducting the program under the existing departments of the Faculty of Technology, namely the program B Tech Computer Science and Engineering of the Department of Computer Engineering, B Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering B Tech Electrical Engineering of the Department of Electrical Engineering. It is worth noting that due to NSIT and Delhi College of Engineering becoming separate universities, DU currently did not have technology programs. Now DU has received approval from the Ministry of Education for the creation of 72 teaching and 48 non-teaching posts for its Faculty of Technology. However, at present only 14 teachers will be appointed under these departments. It is to be noted that the Steering Committee had recommended starting three B.Tech programs from the academic session 2023-24. A total of 360 students will be admitted under these, in which there will be 120 students for each B Tech program. Admission to these programs will be done on the basis of JEE Mains score. The course structure, credit distribution and syllabi for the first two semesters of the programs have been finalized.

 

Freedom and Partition Study Center and Tribal Studies Center also got approval

The resolution to set up the Center for Independence and Partition Studies, passed in the 1014th Academic Council meeting of the University, was also approved. Through research, this center will also work on such unsung heroes and events of the freedom movement, which have not yet found a place in history. Along with this, the incidents during the tragedy of partition of India will also be deeply studied and researched. Apart from this, approval has also been given for the formation of Tribal Studies Center.

It will be a multi-disciplinary center with studies on various tribes of India. In addition to the above, establishment of Hindu Studies Center was also passed in the EC meeting. A Master of Arts program in Hindu Studies will be started under the Center for Hindu Studies.

It has also been approved to run the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course from the academic session 2023-24. This will be a 4 year course as a pilot project. The Vice-Chancellor said that this will not have any impact on the teacher education programs going on earlier. No course will be closed. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Mahila College, Mata Sundari Mahila Mahavidyalaya and Jesus and Mary College have been granted approval for ITEP by NCTE from the session 2023-2024. The education department of DU and eight colleges running B.El.Ed course will apply for ITEP course for the academic year 2024-2025.

 

PhD admission will be done on the basis of CUET (PhD)-2023

Based on the recommendation of the Standing Committee of the Academic Council, after deliberations on various matters related to admission and attendants of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Ph.D. programs for the academic session 2023-24, the same were also accepted by the Executive Council.

The entrance test will be through the national based CUET (Ph.D.) - 2023 conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). However teaching and non teaching category serving in University of Delhi can directly appear for the interview. Teaching and non teaching staff may be permitted to attend classes and take examinations without affecting the duties assigned during office hours.

These rules for Ph.D. will be applicable from the academic session 2023-2024. Apart from these, the eligibility condition and seat matrix recommendations of the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) for admission to Undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) courses for the academic session 2023-2024 were also approved in the EC. M.Sc. Admission to Respiratory Therapy program will also be under CUET (PG) -2023.

 

DU's strategic plan for the next 25 years

Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh described the strategic plan of the university as very important. He said that keeping in mind the strategic plan of the Government of India, DU has also prepared its strategic plan as to what we have to do in the next 25 years. For this, he discussed upon what kind of scientists, engineers, doctors, historians and citizens would the country need and what could be the role of the University of Delhi in that. Keeping all this in mind, this strategic plan has been prepared. He said the Strategic Plan is a systematic process that makes a commitment to the priorities needed for mission-critical work. It also helps to ensure that the university remains vital, sustainable and accountable.

The Strategic Vision of the University aims to consolidate our position as a leading multidisciplinary intensive research university providing economic, social and cultural benefits. The spirit of excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship will be at its core. Six goals such as education and student experience, research, connect between university community, campuses and local community, collaboration with other higher education institutions and industry and global impact, keeping in mind the core parameters of branding, resource creation, philanthropy and globalization, DU 2047 is envisaged.

He said that in the next 20 years we have to be among the top 100 universities of the world. He told that this is the strategic plan of the university. After its approval, all the colleges and departments will also prepare their own strategic plans on the basis of this.
