DSE is the flagship
school of Delhi University says Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh
The inaugural of the
Diamond Jubilee Year and annual day celebrations of the Delhi School of
Economics, University of Delhi, were held on Tuesday, 02 May at Swami
Vivekananda Hall, DSE. DSE alumnus and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister,
Dr PK Mishra said that the Government of India is working on providing basic
facilities to all the countrymen.
Presiding over the
program, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Yogesh Singh, while
congratulating DSE on completion of 74 years of establishment, said that DSE is
the flagship school of the University of Delhi. On this occasion, Vice Chairman
of NITI Aayog Suman Berry was also present as a special speaker.

Mishra also shared his interesting experiences from joining DSE in 1970 to
studying here and said that this institute has changed him a lot. Dr Mishra
also gave detailed views on the country's economy on this occasion. He said
that the post-Covid world is completely different from before. Technology is
changing, what has not been seen before is happening. This two year period has
created economic and social crisis in front of the world. India has handled
itself well in this period as well. He said that the Self-reliant India
campaign has proved to be very successful, a lot of positive work has been done
for agriculture and small scale industries etc.
Counting the
achievements of the government, Dr Mishra said that 11 crore toilets were built
under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, more than three crore houses were made
available to the people, Jal Jeevan Mission was started to provide clean drinking
water to the villagers, under which tap water connection will be available to
all the rural population by 2024.
He said that Ayushman
Bharat is the world's biggest health scheme under which 23 crore beneficiaries have
been given free health cards. About 40 crore families have been provided free
cooking gas connections under Ujjwala Yojana. Not only this, the Digital Health
Mission and Jan Dhan Yojana have made a lot of difference in the lives of
people. Digital revolution has played an important role in direct transfer of
funds to the accounts of beneficiaries through DBT. In the end, he said that
the country is moving towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 and the
University of Delhi and DSE can play an important role in this.
Presiding over the
function, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof Yogesh Singh, while
congratulating DSE on completion of 74 years, said that the school has made a
lot of progress during this period. Enumerating the achievements of DSE, he
said that now we are in the 75th year and now is the time to think afresh and
make new plans. He said that the University of Delhi will provide all possible
help to DSE.
He informed that DU
has sanctioned Rs 300 crore fund to DSE for new infrastructure and renovation
of building etc. Referring to the technological revolution in the country, the
Vice Chancellor said that UPI has made transactions very easy. Until a few
years back no one knew about the QR code, but now digital transactions are
happening through it till the village level. He said that DSE should also
contribute to fulfil the Prime Minister's dream of making the country a
developed nation by 2047 and provide policies and suggestions accordingly.
Sharing the statistics of the last decades of the country's economy, he said
that work should be done on policies that increase the country's growth rate,
only then the country can become a developed nation in the next 25 years.
Speaking as a special
speaker on the occasion, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Berry said in his
address that DSE has given eminent personalities to the country and the world.
He said that in the coming years, India will lead the world in terms of technology.
Explaining the working of NITI Aayog, he said that work is being done to
promote entrepreneurship and innovation under the Atal Innovation Mission.
Berry said that NITI Aayog works closely with central ministries. Work is being
done on education, medicine, Ayushman Bharat, nutrition campaign scheme,
cleanliness and health etc.
In the beginning of the function, Director of DSE
Prof Pammi Dua welcomed the guests. She also explained in detail about DSE in
her address. Along with this, she also presented the introduction of the
guests. Distinguished Alumni Awards for Economics, Geography and Sociology,
Distinguished Service Awards to Retired Faculty Members, Distinguished Service
Awards to Retired Non-Teaching Staff were also presented as part of the prize
distribution at the end of the function. In the end, Head of the Department of
Economics, Prof Surendra Kumar presented the vote of thanks. On this occasion,
Director of South Delhi Campus, Prof Sri Prakash Singh, Registrar Dr Vikas
Gupta, Head of Department of Geography Prof Anindita Dutta, Head of the
Department of Sociology, Prof Sudha Vasan, many former students of DSE
including former Directors of DSE, retired teachers, faculty members, staff and
students
