Draupadi Murmu born in Santhal Schedule Tribe, former Jharkhand Governor elected 15th President of Republic of India today
Draupadi Murmu, official nominee of the BJP led National
Democratic Alliance for the 2022 was today elected as the 15th
President of the Republic of India. Murmu received 2,161 votes, with a vote count of 5,77,777, while opposition
candidate Yashwant Sinha got 1,058 votes with vote count of 2,61,062, in the
third round.
Murmu was born on 20 June 1958 at Rairangpur village in
Mayurbhanj district of Odisha in a Santhal (Schedule Tribe) family. She previously
served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.
She was the first governor of Jharkhand to complete the five
year term, and the first tribal to be nominated to the post of President of
India. .
In a series of tweets, President Elect, Murmu wrote, “Elated
by all of the support from my all political colleagues Ministers, MP's and
MLA's from all -around India for choosing me to serve as the 15th President in

that day I took oath in my mind that If I become President, first of all I will
work for more development of my tribal and adivasi brothers and sisters of
Whole India & Odisha

blessings and everything i achieved till date, I thank my every Citizen of
mother India and to all of You, I cannot express my feeling right now!”
