Find out why Bappi Lahiri wore loads of gold chains, ornaments

Bappi Lahiri is no more and like many, he too has many interesting facts attached with him that is not part of his songs or music that had compelled people to take to the dancing floor. People are unable to accept the going of three institutions less than a fortnight - Lata Mangeshkar, Sandhya Mukherjee, and today Bappi Lahiri.

There are a few interesting facts about him especially about his versatility as a composer, perhaps he was among the last ones to experiment with sounds after the legendary Rahul Dev Burman.  


One of the interesting things about since his ages had been his wearing of kilograms of gold. Many make fun while some cut jokes but his wearing of gold has an interesting story attached.  Bappi Lahiri himself had shared the reason numerous times in interviews as he always enjoyed the jokes.  

Bappi Lahiri was an ardent admirer of legendary Elvis Presley and fell in love with not only the music of Elvis but also his charisma. He had decided to do something special to mark his success with some signature like legendary Elvis.  In the western music world, Elvis Presley is regarded as the king.   

His mother Banshuri Lahiri, a noted singer gave her a gold chain with a Hare Rama Hare Krishna locket in it. Subsequently, he got the offer for Zakhmi, his first blockbuster. Bappi Lahiri fondly Bappida, has since then regarded gold as a sign of success and wore gold chains with each success. He once said he received the gold chains, ornaments from his family. ays got gold from my family, after mother his wife Chitrani who gifted him a gold chain with a big Ganpati locket on it, on his birthday, in 1977. This is how his collection of gold chains that he always wore kept on increasing. 

Another interesting fact attached with his love for gold is that he traveled wearing these gold to every place and never weighed them for him these ornaments were a blessing from God and a good omen that brought him success in his career.
