Highlights of the 3rd National Workshop of Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems

The third National Workshop on Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (TIPS) emphasised the value of the Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) established by the National Mission on Inter-disciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) in facilitating technology translation in the field.

"The mission hubs have been formed in 25 locations around the nation's top technical institutes, and they have been working on all crucial facets of cyber-physical systems, including transportation, energy, and other sectors. At the workshop's closing session, Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), stated that after four years, it is clear that the mission has produced significant results in terms of both the technologies and products that have been developed and scientific publications in high-impact journals.

He urged the technologists connected to the centre to focus on putting technology into use so that the nation might become self-sufficient in important sectors.

Akhilesh Gupta, Senior Adviser, DST, and Secretary Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), stressed the need for increased coordination across the hubs as well as alignment with other ministries and departments with a greater emphasis on fostering and establishing start-ups.

The third National Workshop on Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (TIPS) was held at C3iHub, a cyber-security Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) of The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK). The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Government of India's Department of Science & Technology (DST) oversaw the organisation of the workshop.

The mission has been successful in achieving its goals of making India a leading player in CPS technologies, bringing about the translation of CPS technologies for societal and commercial use, and in nurturing startups, increasing opportunities in the job market, and also producing next generation technocrats in CPS technologies, according to Ekta Kapoor, Mission Director, NM-ICPS and Head, FFT Division, DST.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) announced the beginning of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) in December 2018. The Mission takes into account global trends and leading nations' road maps for the next generation of technologies as well as the society's ever-increasing technological necessities.

25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) in cutting-edge technologies have been established in reputable institutions around the nation as part of the Mission's execution. These TIHs concentrate on entrepreneurship and start-up development, human resource and skill development, technology development and translation, and international collaborative research. A series of workshops are being held to allow for direct communication between the Mission Office, the members of its Expert Committee, and the TIHs in order to effectively implement the Mission and carry out the mandated activities by the TIHs.
