India and Russia Explore Educational Collaborations, Highlighting Mutual Interests in Language and Teacher Exchanges

India and Russia Forge Ahead on Educational Collaboration


Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, on 10th April ,engaged in productive discussions with Denis Gribov, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, focusing on enhancing educational ties between India and Russia. The meeting, also attended by Additional Secretary Anandrao V. Patil, and Joint Secretaries Archana Sharma Awasthi, Amarpreet Duggal, Neeta Prasad, and Prachi Pandey, covered a broad spectrum of collaborative opportunities.


Kumar outlined the vast landscape of the Indian education system, spotlighting the innovative facets of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including skill education initiation from Class VI, experiential learning, new assessment modalities, and policies catering to gifted children.


Gribov shed light on the Russian education system's distinctive features, including student assessment methods and specialised grading systems. Expressing interest in integrating the Russian language into Indian academic institutions and fostering teacher exchange programs, Gribov sought insights on embedding value education within the Russian curriculum, as championed by NEP 2020.


Kumar provided comprehensive information on NCERT's role in curating content for value education. Prasad highlighted the potential for deepened cooperation amidst the G20 Indian Presidency, inviting the Russian delegation to submit a concept note to pave the way for future teacher exchanges and language instruction initiatives. Patil discussed the transformative impact of technology in education, while Awasthi introduced the delegation to the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy initiative, emphasizing instruction in mother tongues and local languages. Pandey elaborated on the importance of skill education from an early age, aiming for students to acquire at least one skill by the end of Class 12.
