India’s moto of 'Gender Equality and Empowering All Women and Girls' secures a firm place in G20

The vision of the Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, of an Amritkaal where Nari Shakti (the power of women) is honoured in all aspects of the economy and society has inspired the G20, which is being led by India. The G20 Presidency of India has for the first time moved the emphasis from women's development to women-led development in order to further this objective.

The Chair's Statement, which was agreed during the G20 Ministerial Conference for Women Empowerment in Gandhinagar on August 2–4, 2023, has been incorporated into the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration 2023, marking a historic milestone for gender equality, women's empowerment, and women-led development.

'Enhancing Economic and Social Empowerment,' 'Bridging the Gender Digital Divide,' 'Driving Gender Inclusive Climate Action,' and 'Securing Women's Food Security, Nutrition, and Well-Being' are the main objectives of the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration 2023.

Furthermore, the G20 Leaders approved the formation of a Working Group on Women's Empowerment to assist the G20 Women's Ministerial, which will hold its inaugural meeting under Brazil's G20 Presidency. The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India's unwavering support for gender parity and gender equity, which has assisted G20 countries in reaching this milestone, is really reflected in this commitment by G20 Leaders.

In the G20 New Delhi Leaders Declaration 2023, India's unflinching commitment to promoting "Gender Equality and Empowering All Women and Girls" has now been firmly established. Without the active participation and support of G20 leaders, delegates, speakers, and representatives from G20 countries and guest countries – namely, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, European Union, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, United Kingdom, USA, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Singapore, Spain, Oman, and UAE – throughout the Indian Presidency, this would not have been possible.

The Ministry of Women & Child Development offers its congratulations to each and every member of Women 20 and G20 EMPOWER for the successful completion of their respective engagements, which were duly reflected in their communiqués and which ultimately found a place in the "G20 New Delhi Leaders Declaration 2023." With its emphasis on women-led development, India's G20 Presidency emerged as a global leader in the advancement of women's empowerment, hosting 86 virtual international meetings and six physical conferences to discuss gender equality. These include the G20 EMPOWER and W20 meetings, which are respectively presided over by Dr. Sandhya Purecha (awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi) and Dr. Sangita Reddy (joint managing director of the Apollo Hospitals Group). The MWCD thanks everyone who helped with the organisation of the many international events and exhibitions as well as the work of the State Governments, Central Ministries, NIFT, Knowledge Partners, particularly UN Women, FICCI, and CII.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development would like to express its sincere gratitude to the local artisans, craftspeople, women in unconventional areas, and female entrepreneurs who showcased their goods, abilities, and services through exhibitions at live international conferences and panel discussions.

Jan Bhagidari, or citizen participation, became a defining characteristic of India's G20 Presidency thanks to the leadership and desire of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to make the G20 a People's Presidency. Over 300,000 people enthusiastically participated in Janbhagidari events, including walkathons and flash mobs, and MWCD applauds that. Women community leaders, artisans, Self Help Groups, SMEs, corporates, and business entities from various states actively participated in the events that highlighted women-led development to make India's G20 Presidency genuinely a people's event.
