The Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) is organizing the 1st International Conference on Hydrogen Energy - Policies, Infrastructure Development, and Challenges with the support of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Central Electricity Authority, and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on 24th -25th November 2021. The conference will feature various aspects relating to green energy.

In his inaugural address the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Bhagwanth Khuba complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his relentless efforts to put forth the issue of decarbonization. "PM Modi at the COP26 emphasized the need of his decarbonization of India". By 2030, India has set the target of 500 GW of Renewable Energy and has aimed for net-zero emissions by 2070.

The minister expressed his concern over the pollution that only destroys the atmosphere but also brings various diseases. Khuba inspired technologists from IITs and other organizations for maximum research for Hydrogen Energy and explore the challenge of reducing the cost of production for electrolysers.

The conference aims to achieve the five-point agenda presented by the Prime Minister at the COP-26 conference in Glasgow, Scotland while delivering the National Statement:

  1. To raise the non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity of the country to 500 GW by 2030.
  2. 50% of the country’s energy requirements would be met using renewable energy sources by 2030.
  3. The country will reduce the total projected carbon emission by one billion tonnes between now and the year 2030.
  4. By 2030, the carbon intensity of the economy would be reduced to less than 45%.
  5. .India would become carbon neutral and achieve net-zero emissions by the year 2070.
The technical committee of the conference selected 29 papers including three papers from foreign authors which will be discussed during the conference.

The conference will have in-depth discussions on issues that can help to develop Green Energy more effectively. Over 200 participants across 60 organisations from India and three international experts from Germany, Japan, and Sweden are expected to participate in the two-day-long conference that would focus on the work that has been initiated over the last few years in the field of Hydrogen in India.
