NCM takes suo moto cognizance in alleged lynching case in Shri Harmandir Sahib

The lynching of an identified man at Shri Harmandir Sahib has raised serious concern. The incident has created ripples in the political corridors. The issue has turned more sensitive with the forthcoming Assembly polls scheduled next year. On Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channa visited the Golden Temple and took stock of the situation. The Chief Minister condemned the incident.   


National Commission for Minorities (NCM), Chairman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, has expressed serious concern over the recent development at Shri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, Punjab. 

Lalpura has taken a suo moto cognizance of alleged sacrilege in the sanctum sanctorum of Shri Harminder Sahib in Amritsar subsequently leading to the killing of the alleged accused. However, the cause of his breaching the security is not yet known. The possibility of theft is not ruled out. 

The other incident has taken place in Gurudwara in Nizampur, Kapurthala district of Punjab where the 'Nishan Sahib' was allegedly sacrileged.  

However, the accused was nabbed by the sewadars and subsequently killed. 

The incidents of alleged sacrilege and alleged killing of the accused are a matter of grave concern which requires urgent attention. Notice has been issued to Chief Secretary, Punjab to submit a detailed report before 26.12.2021. 

On Saturday, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Randhawa, informed had announced a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would investigate the matter and submit a report. 

Security has been beefed up across all religious places. The situation is tense at some places but under control.
