Nitin Gadkari Announces Nationwide Highway Development Projects Worth Over Rs 10,000 Crores


Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, has sanctioned a series of major investments for the development and upgrade of national highway projects across India, amounting to a significant financial commitment of over Rs 10,000 crores. These projects span multiple states, aiming to enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and improve travel safety.


In Uttarakhand, an allocation of Rs. 494.45 crore is directed towards the 4-lane configuration upgrade of the Kashipur to Ramnagar section of National Highway 121 (New 309), benefiting the Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts. This upgrade is expected to bolster access to Jim Corbett National Park and facilitate easier travel from Moradabad and Rampur in Uttar Pradesh towards Delhi/Lucknow, promoting tourism and economic development in the region.


Karnataka is set to receive Rs. 626.01 crore for the completion of the 4-laning of the Bellary Bypass, covering the Bellary to Byrapur Section of National Highway 150A over 13.087 Km across Bellary and Ananthpur districts. This initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion in Bellary town, enhancing road safety and contributing to the broader Hospet to Bellary project.


Andhra Pradesh has been granted Rs. 1346.81 crore for the expansion of the existing 2 – Lane Paved Shoulder from the Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh border to Puttur (20.03 Km) on National Highway-716 to a 4-lane standard. The project also includes the widening of the Mallavaram junction to Renigunta junction (17.40 Km) on NH-71 to a 6-lane standard, aiming to transform the specified stretch into a fully access-controlled corridor and link the sacred cities of Tiruthani and Tirupathi.


In Odisha, the Sambalpur district will benefit from a Rs. 374.17 crore investment for constructing a 3.5 Km long 6-lane flyover at Ainthapalli junction and a 2-lane ROB on NH-53, significantly improving traffic flow and safety.


Jammu & Kashmir sees an allocation of Rs. 224.44 crore for the construction of the Shopian Bypass on National Highway-444, enhancing connectivity within the region and supporting the local apple industry by easing the transportation of goods to markets.


The most substantial investment is in Arunachal Pradesh, with Rs. 6621.62 crore allocated for the construction of eight packages on National Highway-913, the Frontier Highway, covering 265.49 Km. This project is poised to improve connectivity to border areas, support socio-economic growth, and facilitate the development of hydropower projects.


Jharkhand's Dumka district receives Rs. 292.65 crore for the four-laning of the Tower Chowk to Basukinath section of National Highway 114A, enhancing the pilgrimage route to Deoghar and Basukinath and addressing the traffic challenges during the Shravani Mela.
