Workshop on Media, Polity and Legal System held at Delhi School of Journalism
On February 8, 2024 in an intellectually charged atmosphere, Delhi
School of Journalism (DSJ) played host to a thought-provoking workshop session on Media, Polity and Legal System. The workshop was
attended by students and faculty members was organised under the guidance of Prof JP Dubey, the Honorary Director of the
institute.
The event was presided over by Dr Seema Singh as the keynote
speaker for the session. She is the Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law
and a prominent member of the Academic Council of University of Delhi.
Dr Singh emphasized on the importance of legal awareness in the
field of Journalism. She also drew contrast between the Constitution of US and India,
highlighting the suitability of our constitution in satisfying the unique
social fabric of our nation.
“For a democracy the media and the opposition are the two most
significant pillars, and their independence need to be duly safeguarded, this
is possible only through the realization of the constitution “said Dr Singh.
She also delved into the journey of media houses to corporate
houses highlighting the increasing trend of corporatization of Media. She also gave people the message that any
discussion which poses a threat to the fraternity and the sovereignty of the nation,
should be avoided.
The interactive nature of the session fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives. Students came up with some very intriguing questions.
The event was coordinated by Kamal Beniwal and Dr Priyanka Sachdeva and attended by the faculty members of DSJ: Mithilesh Pandey, Dr Purnima and Praveen Jha. The session on interconnectedness of Law and Media at the Delhi School of Journalism helped everyone in deeper legal awareness reinforced the school's commitment to providing a holistic education that extends beyond the classroom.
